Corvette Takes 1st and 2nd in GTS class at 24 Hours of Lemans

Le Mans, France, June 17, 2001 - Proving once again that the GM Corvette Team is the team to beat in the GTS class, The #63 GM Goodwrench Corvette C5-R driven by Ron Fellows, Johnny O'Connell and Scott Pruett battled the torment of the torrential rainfall to win the GTS class at the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans. The #64 Goodwrench Corvette C5-R driven by Andy Pilgrim, Kelly Collins and Franck Freon; added an exclamation point to the victory by placing 2nd in class after battling starting motor problems. The victory at Le Mans proves once again the American Performance Icon called Corvette is truly a world class car. The 2001 racing season has been a very successful one so far for the GM Corvette team and no doubt this success will continue throughout the rest of the season. Congratulations to everyone on the GM Corvette Team for a job well done under truly challenging conditions.

CORVETTE WINS!!! ROLEX 24 Hours at Daytona!!!

Daytona International Speedway (Feb.4, 2001) -- The No.02 General Motor's Corvette Racing Team C5-R Corvette, driven by Ron Fellows, Chris Kneifel, Frank Freon, and Johnny O'Connell, has made history and achieved the overall victory of the historic Rolex 24 Hour race today.

This is the culmaination of a three-year development program for the Corvette Racing Team and follows their 2nd place overall victory at the Rolex race held last year.

The No.02 performed flawlessly. Taking the GTS class lead from the start, they led the class unchallenged and without major contact or mechanical problem. The race was led by the #16 Dyson Ford prototype for most of the night with the Corvette slowly moving up in the overall standing through attrition of the other prototype car. When the #16 lost their motor this morning, the overall 2nd place No.02 C5-R inherited the overall lead.

The No.03 C5-R driven by Andy Pilgrim, Dale Earnhardt, Dale Earnhardt Jr., and Collins, finished 2nd in the GTS class and 4th overall. A very impressive day for the Corvette Racing Team. Congratulations to the Corvette community.
